Black + Decker BL6010 FusionBlade Review

You love smoothies and you’ve got a big family with around 5 to 8 members.

A small blender is out of the question but you can only spend so much.

But Black & Decker is able to achieve what seemed to be impossible a few years ago.

Manufacture a blender with a thousand watt motor that can make healthy smoothies for a family of 5 or 1.

This blender is a great alternative to the Blendtec and Vitamix blenders that cost at least $300.

You won’t get the torque of the Vitamix or the crushing power of a Blendtec but you’ll be able to do most of the functions of those other brands without burning your wallet.

If you think the Montel Williams or the Cleanblend is cheap, this powerful blender costs less than $100 in Amazon.

Even with the low price you’ll get a lot for your money.

Aside from the large 64 ounce jar there’s another 20 ounce jar designed to make single serve drinks just in case you’re in hurry.

So in essence this blender gives you a lot of options and flexibility.

Let’s start by look at the features:

  • Powered by a 1,100 watt motor
  • Comes with a 64 ounce tritan jar and smaller 20 ounce cup for single serve drinks
  • Both are BPA free and dishwasher safe
  • Equipped with an all stainless steel blade that Black + Decker calls the FusionBlade that they claim will blend ingredients into a smooth consistency whether be it soups or homemade peanut butter
  • Has all digital controls – pulse, auto and 5 speed settings
  • 3 year warranty
  • 16.2″ tall

Pros

  • Very affordable for a 1,100 watt blender with 60+ ounce pitcher
  • It even comes with a personal size 20 ounce cup for making single serve drinks
  • Comes with a very decent 3 year warranty
  • Pitcher is dishwasher safe

Cons

  • At 16.2 inches, one of the taller blenders in the market (you will need allot some space to store this)
  • Like all powerful 1,000 watt blenders this is noisy
  • Takes very long to make smoothie homemade nut butter

What to expect from Black + Decker BL6010 FusionBlade?

features

Lots of power

With 1,100 watts of blending power on tap, this machine has a lot of power and can match more expensive brands like the Blendtec in terms of consistency when making smoothies or protein shakes.

Digital controls

It has a nice satin black and gray finish that will fit into most modern kitchens and it utilizes digital controls.

Unlike the Blendtec, the this Black + Decker blender does not have any pre-programmed controls.

Preset controls

Aside from the auto and pulse button, it has 5 speed settings and you will have to read the manual which speed setting will work for the type of recipe you’ll prepare.

Comes with smaller 20 ounce cup

One feature I like is the 20 ounce cup that allows consumers to make smoothies for one without having to bring out the big pitcher.

This is a time saver because you don’t need to transfer contents from the large pitcher to a bottle. And there’s no need to wash the large pitcher.

You can attach the bottle itself direct on the motor because it has its own blade. Plus you’ll get a separate travel lid so you can  bring your smoothies to the gym or work.

It is a time saver that allows you to make smoothies for the whole family or just for yourself. Not a lot of blenders have this feature right now. And not many costs this low.

What can this make?

The 1,100 watt motor is strong enough to make smoothies, soup, protein shakes, chop vegetables into guacamole or salsa, crush ice and even chop dry ingredients.

This is made possible because of the “FusionBlade” that Black + Decker claims to evenly crush and blend not only fruits and vegetables but also ice, peanuts and even rice.

Like what I’ve said earlier, this does not have any pre-programmed settings. So you’ll have to refer to the manual or to this review on the speed setting to use when making smoothies, nut butter and crush ice.

To make smoothies with frozen ingredients, you have to set at at number 5.

You will see in the video below the exact steps after pouring in all the ingredients inside the pitcher…

  1. Turn on the blender
  2. Push the auto button
  3. Set it at setting number 5 which is the fastest setting

Smoothie

Remember that if you’re making smoothies always add a little bit of liquid like water or coconut water to help get things going.

This also makes the smoothie more consistent. If you want a thicker smoothie add less. But Ii you want a juice like texture then add more liquid.

How it compares to a Blendtec

Now if you want to know how the BL6010 compares to a Blendtec in terms of making smoothies, watch this video.

And the result?

There really isn’t much difference at all.

Both machines were able to product a clunk-free smoothie in under a minute.

This shows you that this machine is capable of matching the Blendtec, at least in terms of making smoothies.

You don’t need to spend $500 just to make smoothies.

Nut butter

Aside from making smoothies, you can also make nut butter. In the recipe below, you’ll need 3 cups of peanuts and a third of a cup of peanut oil…

How about a creamy squash soup?

You’ll notice that after making this recipe, you don’t need to heat the soup inside a kettle as the blender will do it for you.

I’ll say it again this is another time saving benefit for busy moms.

Is it easy to clean?

I’ll said this before and I’ll say it again here, make sure to clean your blender ASAP after using it so ingredients to dry up and become a pain to remove, especially if you’re making nut butter.

Now with that out of the way, I say yes, this blender is easy to clean even with the large 64 ounce pitcher.

Dishwasher safe

Since it is dishwasher safe what you can do after using it is rinse off the pitcher under running water then place it inside the dishwasher (remember top rack only).

Both the 64 ounce and 20 ounce containers are dishwasher safe.

Another way to clean this if you don’t want to use a dishwasher is to fill up half the pitcher with water and then pulse it at low speed for 30 seconds then rinse.

If you’re making nut butter, you may need to scrub the container and blades with dishwashing soap to remove any oily residue.

Warranty

Black + Decker backs this up with a 3 year warranty which is pretty good for a blender under $100. This is a better warranty when you compare it to a Nutri Ninja.

What do consumers think?

Consumers love how this budget blender works.

The 1,100 watt motor is a great feature plus the 20 ounce cup allows them to make single serve drinks without washing the large pitcher.

If you like to make smoothies, this will be your constant companion.

Large pitcher

One reviewer gave a heads up though that this blender is huge. If you put it side by side next to the Blendtec Designer Series, it is slightly taller. Check out this screengrab from Youtube.

Blendtec Vs Black & Decker FusionBlade

So you will need to have space inside your kitchen to fit this beast of a blender.

Aside from that downside, if you call it a downside, this blender performed well.

Versatile machine

Consumers didn’t have any problems with making smoothies, soups, sauces though one consumer took a little while making nut butter and this was the result.

nut butter inside the pitcher

chunky nut butter

You’ll notice it isn’t very smooth and it took her around two minutes to make this.

One caveat

Make sure not to run the motor for more than a minute straight so you do not burn out the motor.

I think this is the only area where the Vitamix has an advantage over this but with the price difference I don’t mind because

t is substantial.

Remember I told you that you have to refer to the manual what the different speeds are for, well one consumer was kind enough to share in their her what recipes these speeds apply to.

  • Speed 1 = Soup
  • 2 = Nut Butter
  • 3 = Personal Jar/Half Recipes
  • 4 = Dry Goods
  • 5 = Smoothies

But remember these are just “best practices” suggestions. You are free to experiment with the settings and see what fits your needs.

Over all consumers loved how this blender gave them an option to purchase a full sized blender without have to spend $500 for a Vitamix. Now, that is value for money in my book. This blender isn’t perfect but it does a pretty darn good job at what it does which is making smoothies, soup, salsa, frozen dessert recipes.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy the Black + Decker FusionBlade from Amazon for less than $100! And it is eligible for the 2-day free shipping if you join Prime. Another reason to buy in Amazon would be the extended warranty that they offer – up to 4 years.

So it extends the warranty up to 7 years, for that extra peace of mind.

To Wrap Up

This blender is a great option for folks who want a full sized blender. But don’t want to heavily invest on one.

It will give you almost the same functionality of the Vitamix and Blendtec in terms of making smoothies, soups, frozen desserts, salsa, etc. but you only pay a fraction of the price.

The only thing this cannot do is make really smooth peanut butter as it lacks a plunger. And while you can make nut butter, you could risk burning out the motor if you lack patience.

Even if you purchase the extended warranty, you will only have to pay an extra 5 dollars.

This is a great deal in my book. And if you add the cost of the extended warranty you only pay $100 for this blender which is still cheaper even than a Nutribullet.

And this blender will give you way more than that.

Lastly, it has a small 20 ounce personal blender jar that will allow you to make single serve drinks. So you don’t need to wash the big 64 ounce pitcher if you’re making smoothies for yourself.

Even other budget blenders like the CleanBlend, Montel Williams or the Shred have that feature (though these blenders have stronger motors).

If you’re looking for a budget blender, this is one that I will recommend.
