Hamilton Beach 67608A Big Mouth Review: Cheap and Powerful

Most people who buy their first juicer overlook one crucial feature that might be the difference between them using it every day not using it at all – the feed chute.

Most budget juicers have notoriously small chutes that require chopping most ingredients, and it is time-consuming.

You’d have to spare 15 to 30 minutes just for prep time alone.

The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth won’t require you to do that because of its wide 3-inch feed chute.

Food and Wine Magazine called it the Most Efficient” juicer beating the likes of Omega, Breville and the Juiceman Pro.

Hamilton Beach claims that you can make up to 24% more apple juice than a leading competitor which is a bold statement because most leading brands will roughly make the same amount give or take a few ounces.

Features of the Hamilton Beach 67608A

  • an excellent 3” feed chute – less pre-cutting needed
  • 850-watt motor equivalent to 1.1 hp
  • Parts are dishwasher safe (top rack only)
  • 20oz juice catcher
  • Extra-large pulp catcher
  • Uses a stainless steel cutting disk and straining basket
  • Comes with a cleaning brush to dislodge pulp from the strainer and cutting blades
  • Not BPA free
  • 14.41″ tall

The good:

  • Has a large 3″ feed chute
  • Powerful 800 motor juices produce in seconds
  • Large pulp catcher
  • Easy to assemble and clean

The Bad:

  • Makes a lot of noise
  • Only has a small 20oz juice jug
  • Oxidizes juice fast because of the high rpm that sucks in lots of air

What to expect from the Hamilton Beach 67608A Big Mouth?

The biggest reason you should buy this, in my opinion, is the wide 3” feed chute, this feature makes a world of difference in the amount of time you spend juicing.

Hamilton Beach 67601A Features

Wide feed chute

Without the wide feed chute, you’ll probably need to spend close to 30 minutes prepping depending on the number of fruits and vegetables you’re chopping.

With the wide chute, the prep time is reduced by half.

Don’t worry about bogging down the motor because the 800-watt powerhouse produces a healthy 1.1 horses of shredding and juicing power.

This is a big reason why it got such a vote of confidence from Food and Wine Magazine.

This juicer will work best on

Hard, juicy and fibrous stuff like cucumber, apple, carrot, celery, and beet, particularly carrot because it is the type of hard ingredient with a lot of mass that the cutting blades like to chew on.

It will also work on leafy greens to some extent but won’t be as efficient as a masticating extractor that squeezes the juice out.

To give you an idea of how this will work on kale and carrot, watch this video…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBGNBgsIjLs

She also gave a helpful tip when juicing leafy greens – she kept it moist and packed it in the feed chute as tight as possible instead of dropping one leaf at a time.

It maximized the yield from the kale leaves she put in.

How long can you store juice?

Not very long, don’t store juice extracted from this machine for more than 24 hours because it may spoil by the time you drink it.

For the best results always drink it as soon as it comes out of the juicer so that you’ll be able to digest the freshest and more nutrient-rich juice.

If you want to store it, do so in a mason jar and keep it refrigerated. Again, drink it within the day.

How much preparation is needed?

There isn’t much preparation needed for most ingredients. You can put in stuff like granny smith apples or lemons whole.

If you’re juicing orange, take off the skin, or it’ll be bitter.

Of course for large fruit like pineapple or watermelon, you’ll need to chop it, but you don’t need to cut it into bite-sized pieces, which again saves you time.

How much juice can it extract?

As you’ve seen in the video above, it did a good job extracting juice from carrots in the video above.

Four medium sized carrots nearly filled up half of the 32oz mason jar.

Here’s how much you’ll get from a pear, an apple, three sticks of celery and three carrots.

Again for hard and watery ingredients with a lot of mass, it will do quite well.

Is it hard to clean up?

Even though this is dishwater safe, I’d recommend that you hand wash this because it generally only takes around 5 minutes to rinse off the excess pulp, but you’ll have to clean it immediately after using this.

Don’t allow this to sit around and let the pulp dry up or you’ll have a difficult time scrubbing off the excess pulp, especially off the strainer.

It has a cleaning brush for the strainer so cleaning this part won’t be difficult. Thank you for including that Hamilton Beach.

What type of juicer is this?

This machine is a centrifugal juicer that uses a high-speed spin cycle much like a washing machine to shred and extract juice from produce.

Hamilton Beach does not specify how fast the cutting disc spins.

How long is the warranty?

This Hamilton Beach juicer only comes with a one year warranty.

Is it BPA free?

Unfortunately, Hamilton Beach does not state whether or not this uses BPA-free components.

Noise

You’ll notice in the video I shared above that it scared the girl who’s using it for the first time, so it is quite loud.

Not the machine you’ll want to use at 6 a.m. with your neighbors or children sleeping.

Voltage

It is only available in 110/120 volts.

Consumer Rating

A lot of the people who bought this juicer were first-time juicers who were looking for something affordable that will not break the bank.

Consumers chose this over the Breville

Some folks were looking to buy a Breville juice fountain but decided against it because it cost over $100, so they settled with this.

And some went as far as saying that this performed up to par with the Breville and cost more than 50% less.

Looking at the comments, all the plus points are the same – great on stuff like carrots, beet, celery, and apple, struggles with leafy greens, easy to assemble and clean.

Some potential issues

Though some people complained that it was hard to clean – again, the key is cleaning it immediately after using it, so pulp does not dry out.

There were also some complaints about the motor burning out after a few months. This is a potential problem with juicers in this price range.

Overall this juicer fit the needs of most people who bought this because it was fast, cheap, plus the wide mouth didn’t require too much chopping, so it is a time saver as well.

You’ll have to deal with the noise and the possibility of the motor burning out, but that’s why we have warranties.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy this juicer from Amazon for less than $60. It’s a bargain considering the powerful 850-watt motor and 3″ chute. This juicer will be eligible for the 2-day free shipping if you join Prime. Amazon also sells an extended warranty of up to 4 years if you want that extra peace of mind.

To wrap up

This juicer is an excellent option for people who are starting in juicing looking for something affordable.

I’d recommend this because it has a wide feed chute that cuts down prep time by more than half!

Long preparation time is one of the reasons (if not the most significant reason) why people don’t want to juice, by taking that out of the equation the biggest the chance you’ll continue to use this day after day and improve your health.

If the Breville juice fountain juicers are too expensive for you, then this would be a worthy budget alternative for those starting this journey.

i have that kind of juicer but when i used to make my juice it is not properly working the carrots that i put it is not properly grind it give me a big big pieces and the juice are not appearing do i need to adjust so that it can work properly i dont know what really wrong.

  2. i just bought this juicer so haven’t used it yet. I appreciate the video, especially demonstration for “juicing” greens. Aftet I stopped juicing over a year ago, I tried the Ninja but really missed my juiced carrots, apples, beets, etc. The Ninja is really only a blender so you don’t get that juice taste.

  3. I bought this juicet for the large produce chute, pulp catcher & affordable price. I am very happy with variety of vegetables I can juice, even greens, putting hard veggies or apples on bottom of chute as well as on top of greend. The pulp comes out vety dry. The metal grinder cleand very easily & included brush isexcrllent for cleaning residue off plate. One down point gof me is the plastic pulp catcher is too lightweight. Noticed today there is a crack & it is only 3 weeks in use. Woukd suggest that nfgr, would use a heavier grade of plastiv or other material. I can use it with a plastic bag lining it. Not too thrilled abput the use of plastic when I assume it is not BPH free. Good alternative for more expendsive juicers.
