Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain Review: Compact and Light

You’re busy, yet you still want to juice, you want something easy to use where there is no need to chop produce.

The Breville BJE200XL is perfect for people on the go because it has a wide 3-inch feed chute and it doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain Review

This compact juicer uses centrifugal action to grind and extract juice from fruit and vegetables.

It does not have a separate ejector port for the pulp so don’t expect it to extract a lot of juice in one go.

Can’t store juice as long

You can make decent sized batches of juice, but since this sucks in a lot of air, you can’t store juice for more than a day without it degrading.

So this is best utilized as your daily juicer because it’s easy to use and clean up.

Make sure everyone is awake though because it makes a lot of noise.

For the most part, you don’t have to chop fruits and vegetables because it has a 3-inch feed chute. But for watermelon or pineapple, obviously, you need to chop.

Features of the Breville BJE200XL compact juicer:

  • 700-watt motor spins the disc at 13,000rpm
  • Stainless steel cutting disc
  • Large 1.5-liter pulp container
  • Dishwasher safe
  • 3.3-inch wide feed chute cutting knife inside – no need to pre-cut apples
  • Comes with a cleaning brush for easy cleanup
  • Has a locking mechanism to protect it from accidentally turning on without the lock in place
  • 800ml juice jug with froth separator
  • Not BPA free
  • 16 inches tall

The good:

  • Very fast – juices produce in seconds
  • Simple to use
  • Very minimal pre-cutting needed
  • A bestselling centrifugal juicer in Amazon
  • Stable (does not jump around the table)

The Bad:

  • Noisy
  • Sucks in lots of air
  • Can’t store juice for more than a day
  • Will struggle juicing leafy greens
  • Only comes with a 1-year warranty
  • Bits and pieces flying back out if you don’t cover the feed chute

What to expect from the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain?

Powering this machine is a 700-watt motor that spins the cutting disc at a whopping 14,000rpm.

Breville Juice Fountain Features

This is good and bad, good because it’ll extract juice within seconds but bad because of the fast spinning disc sucks in lots of air and produces heat that oxidizes juice faster.

Wide feed chute

The feed chute is wide – around 3 inches, so there is no need to slice apples into quarters or eights, just put the whole thing in there and push it down with the feed chute.

On/off switch

What I like about this product is that it only has an on/off switch there is no need to learn different speed settings, cram all the produce in and turn it on.

This juicer will work best on

…Hard ingredients such as beet, celery, and carrot. It’ll also work great on fruits like apple, orange, and lemon.

If there is an Achilles heel, it’s green leafy vegetables, but there is a workaround for this.

Let’s say you’re juicing kale – take a leaf fold it two or three times and cram it in between two solid ingredients like apple.

Another tactic for larger leaves like collard greens would be inserting it folded instead of straight like this…

This technique helps make it denser thus less chance of it hopping on the blade which will result in more yield.

How long can you store juice?

A lot of air goes into the juice because the blade spins over 14,000 rpm. It will also generate heat, and a lot of air is sucked in. Combine these two factors, and you have oxidized juice.

Oxidation spoils the juice faster meaning you can’t store it even in the fridge for more than a day max.

Some experts say that you have to drink it as soon as possible – 15 to 20 minutes max, after this juice begins to spoil.

Do you need to chop?

The wide 3” feed chute means that you’ll virtually don’t need to chop anything unless it’s something big like pineapple or watermelon.

The opening is big enough to fit in a whole granny smith apple without slicing it. Don’t worry about the seeds small quantities of it will not poison you.

How much juice can it extract?

Centrifugal juicers will do well with fruits and hard fibrous vegetables like celery and carrot, but it will struggle a little bit extracting from leafy greens even with the technique I showed you above.

One elderly consumer said he was able to extract 16 ounces of juice from 4 carrots, a small pear, two sticks of celery and a couple of tasty red apples.

For me this is impressive.

Like I told you, this will do well with hard ingredients like carrot and celery.

Is it hard to clean up?

You’ll only have five parts to clean up – the cover, shredding disc, plunger, pulp catcher and juice jug.

The hardest part to clean would be the shredding disc, but the BJE200XL comes with a cleaning brush so it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to clean up.

The key here is cleaning this immediately after using it, if not pulp will dry up and clog the disc/mesh filter basket making it very difficult to clean.

Spare a few minutes to clean this machine right away; it’ll save you from headaches and cursing later on =). Trust me.

It can be washed inside a dishwasher but take note that uses the top rack only but regardless; you’ll need to scrub the filter basket because dishwashing won’t dislodge pulp accumulated there.

Some consumers have had the pusher warped while washing in inside a dishwasher, my guess it, they didn’t put in the top rack so always follow instructions.

A short review on Amazon…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acKHX6xmyNI

What type of juicer is this?

This machine is called a centrifugal type juicer that uses a spin cycle similar to that of a washing machine to fling the juice out of produce after the disc shreds it.

It spins at a very fast 13,000rpm, so this is a loud machine.

How long is the warranty?

It only comes with a 1-year warranty.

Is it BPA free?

Breville does not specify if this juicer uses BPA free components or not.

Noise

This is quite noisy, so if you have toddlers around, this might scare them.

You might not want to use this if you’re living inside an apartment unit with neighbors close by because you might wake them up. The noise level will be roughly between 70 to 80 decibels.

Some consumers said it was bearable and it isn’t as loud as a blender but make no mistake it is still loud.

Voltage

If you buy this in Amazon.com, you’ll get a 110/120 volt version of this.

Consumer Rating

This juicer is fast, easy to use and clean which made it the bestselling centrifugal juicer in Amazon (so far) where it has well over 3,000 reviews and counting.

Easy to use

It also received rave reviews from sites like Best Buy and TheKitchn because there are no settings to figure out – you feed produce to the feed chute and watch it go.

What makes this a favorite juicer is the user-friendliness, there are no speed settings just an on and off switch.

Wide feed chute

The wide feed chute is a great feature because you don’t need to pre-cut too much, aside from the need to chop large fruits pineapple or large Fuji apples there isn’t any need to chop the majority of stuff you’ll put in.

It is easy to clean

Consumers also commented on how easy it is to clean. Armed with the cleaning brush, it takes them around 2 to 3 minutes to clean under running water.

If you’re a more obsessive-compulsive type like me, then add a few more minutes if you’re going to wash this with dishwashing liquid.

Some tips to get more juice from leafy greens

Consumers gave some tips on how to get more juice from leafy greens.

One, in particular, suggesting wrapping kale leaves around spinach leaves so the small spinach leaves will not fly around inside.

Make sure to clean pulp inside the pulp catcher because pulp tends to accumulate in tight areas like seams.

I noticed that several consumers complaining about this as a design flaw. But this seems to be a complaint by a minority of consumers – didn’t see this complaint in the majority of reviews.

Another complaint is the tendency to leak under the pulp container which could seep into the motor.

No an efficient juicer

This juicer isn’t efficient and expects some bits and pieces of leaves are floating around.

This is a common problem for all centrifugal juicers, not just this one – if you want something more efficient, then a masticating juicer would be a better choice.

Based on reviews, the noise is bearable because it uses a smaller motor. But it won’t match a slow juicer in terms of quietness.

Overall this is an excellent juicer for people on the go or who are just starting to juicing who want a machine that is simple to use and easy to clean.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy this juicer at Amazon for less than $90. And this will be eligible for 2-day free shipping if you enroll in Prime. Amazon also offers extended warranties up to 4 years for extra peace of mind.

The verdict

This product would be great for very busy folks who are just starting out juicing because there are no settings to memorize, all you need to do is stuff the produce in the wide 3-inch feed chute and drink the juice that comes out.

Clean up is easy, thanks to the cleaning brush and spatula included in the package so it’ll not take more than 5 minutes to clean this under running water.

But take note that this machine won’t be as efficient as a masticating juicer in terms of juice yield and it’ll be noisy but if you want something that’ll work fast and you’re always in a hurry – this is the juicer you want.

It’s also one of the cheapest Breville juicers available at just under $100.
